How to Craft a DIY T-Shirt Scarf

In our last post, we shared some cool do-it-yourself tutorials with ways to repurpose your old t-shirts, courtesy of a few of the best crafty blogs on the web. Today we have a little tutorial of our own! Check out our step-by-step guide on how to craft a simple, super-cute scarf out of an old t-shirt. Let’s get started!

What you’ll need:

  • One t-shirt. Any knit fabric will do. The larger the size, the longer the scarf will be.
  • Large, flat surface to lay out your t-shirt.
  • Rotary blade or scissors for cutting fabric.
  • Yard stick or large ruler for measuring and a straight edge.
  • An iron for pressing fabric.
  • A sewing machine for sewing.

1. Lay your t-shirt on a flat surface, smooth out to remove most of the wrinkles.

2. Cut straight across the bottom of the t-shirt just above the hem.

With the bottom of the t-shirt removed, the result should look something like this:

Halloween Fun!

Not until recent years has Halloween become somewhat of a big deal around the BlueCotton offices.  In fact, I’m pretty sure no one showed up to work in costume until my first Halloween at the company three years ago. I was dressed in complete drag attire and was totally convincing–just ask Jim!  Anyhow, since that day, things have never been the same at BlueCotton and with each passing year more and more of the BlueCotton crew arrives in costume.  See for yourself and check out some photos from this year’s celebration!

Moving On Up

What is the key ingredient to any successful screen-printing company? Waterfalls. No joke. You aren’t a legit company unless you’ve got two glass and stainless steel waterfalls mounted in your front lobby wall. At least that’s the philosophy that inspired our new workplace. Not only did we launch a distinctively different website and add 20 plus new faces to the staff but we also created a modern, spacious environment to accommodate all this awesomeness!

In Jan. 2007 the building process was put in motion; it started with drawings and constant rearranging of offices. By March we were ready to break ground. Seven months later, we were still waiting on the concrete guy to get started. Just kidding! In Sept. we began the arduous task of moving across the parking lot from the old building into the shiny new facility. Even though our current location is roughly twice the size of the former, we’ve managed to fill it up with new staff and equipment. [...]
